THE CLARITY OF SONSHIP
"Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, 2 but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. 4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, 'Abba, Father!' Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ" Galatians 4:1-7.

We find true freedom when we have a clear understanding that we have passed from slavery to full sonship.

Slavery is not necessarily the spiritual bondage we might assume. It can be an attitude or mindset we hold that convinces us that in order to be accepted by God we must first prove ourselves.

The Law was never designed as a way for us to get close to God. It was designed as a way to show us how impossible it is to acheive righteoussness without His help. Our tutor, the Law, teaches us the profound need we have for grace and forgiveness. Our efforts toward righteousness should be initiated from love rather than from any fear that we might be rejected or judged. Christ came to show us Who God is and to make clear the way for us to truly know Him through His love.

"For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise" Galatians 3:26-29.

Sonship is our new reality. The revelation that we belong to God and are completely and fully loved by Him empowers us with the confidence to stand before Him clothed with our new identity. We are loved. We are accepted. We are full of His Holy Spirit. We have a future and a destiny. We can make a difference in the world.

That we maintain this clarity of sonship is of vital importance. I am a son. I am an heir. I am responsible to represent my family in every situation and circumstance. I have incredible heavenly resources available to me. It is nothing I have to earn. It has all been given to me freely. I choose to step toward the new reality of my life in Jesus Christ. I choose to accept the love I have been given (Luke 15:11-32).

“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry” Luke 15:20-24.
